The European Data Protection Board’s notification on the Twitter decision was issued on 10 November. The new Facebook challenge to the Irish Data Protection Commission investigation of its data transfers is back in Court in December. The EU Council are considering new ePrivacy Regulations…. There is a lot going on in data protection. This programme taster lecture for Professional Certificate in Data Protection will consider enforcement, international transfers and cookies. Where Now and What Next?

About the Professional Certificate in Data Protection

There has been a significant increase in the complexity and volume of the regulation underpinning compliance in the area of data protection. As well as a thorough understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework, professional practice in the area of data protection requires judgements and decisions to be made for many scenarios. The primary motivation underpinning the Professional Certificate in Data Protection is to provide a learning opportunity for compliance and related professions to develop the necessary skills to ensure that their organisations meet their current and future responsibilities in relation to data protection .


The event will be held over Zoom. Please ensure you have access to Zoom in advance of the event taking place. Zoom is available on all PCs, laptops, tablets and Apple or Android devices. The link to join the event will be emailed to registered members on the day of the event.

The registration for the event will close once we reach capacity or at 3pm the day before the event.

Denis Kelleher

Denis has a deep understanding and experience of Privacy and Data Protection law. He is co-author of EU Data Protection Law, Bloomsbury Professional, and author of "Privacy and Data Protection Law in Ireland". Denis delivers IOB’s Professional Certificate in Data Protection, UCD accredited programme at level 9.

Previously Denis was Senior Legal Counsel in the Central Bank of Ireland, and advised on the Central Credit Register and other major data processing projects; Legal Counsellor in the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU, represented Ireland at the negotiations that drafted the text of the Lisbon Treaty; Advisory Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General; and Barrister in private practice.
