There are 64,000 people living with dementia in Ireland, so the chances are most people will know someone with the disease. Join IOB and Saint Joseph's Shankill, Ireland's leading dementia care provider, as they take us through:
General information about living with dementia
Supporting someone living with dementia
Connecting with a person living with dementia
Saint Joseph's Shankill is home to 60 people. They also provide a Day Care Club and 2 beds for weekly respite. They hold the 'Outstanding' Butterfly Model of Care accreditation from Meaningful Care Matters. In 2020 they won the Charity Impact Award and in 2021 we received the Investing in Volunteers Award, the national quality mark for volunteer management.
Nicola is the Volunteer and Community Coordinator with Saint Joseph’s Shankill since 2018. In 2021 Saint Joseph’s Shankill became the first nursing home in Ireland to achieve the Investing in Volunteers Award – the quality standard for volunteer programmes in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Following her career as an Occupational Therapist, Marie has worked for over 30 years in senior management roles in the Disability, Hospice and Homeless sectors.
As well as volunteering with Saint Joseph's Shankill, Marie now works as a consultant with a number of not-for-profit organisations.
