Deirdre Bane

Deputy Dean IOB

Deirdre is currently Deputy Dean at the Institute of Bankers, a UCD college. Her research, teaching, and consulting interests encompass Financial Services, Economic Development and Infrastructure, Governance, Strategy, Risk, and Higher Education.

She holds multidisciplinary qualifications, including a PhD in Entrepreneurship, an MSc in Professional Accountancy, an MPA in Public Administration, an MSc in Digital Arts and Humanities, a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Statistics, and Professional Diplomas in Data and Analytics in Financial Services and Strategic Management in Financial Services.

She is an accountant with dual professional designations as a Chartered Public Finance Accountant (CIPFA) (UK) and Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA). Outside academia, Deirdre has extensive professional experience in both the United States and Ireland. In the US, she worked in Financial Services with Sanford C. Bernstein and Credit Suisse First Boston and in Economic Development consulting with Appleseed Inc., where projects included the economic impact analysis of the World Trade Center rebuild, assessments of academic institutions (e.g., Columbia University, Harvard), and other major infrastructure projects. In Ireland, she has held multiple academic positions, was a visiting lecturer at Yunnan University, China, and served as Senior Finance and Governance Specialist at the Institute of Public Administration. There, she provided consulting and support to public bodies and non-profit entities, including government departments, state agencies, local authorities, and charitable organisations, specialising in financial management, corporate governance (e.g., board and committee evaluations), risk management, and strategic development.

She has been a trustee of CIPFA council in the UK and a member of their students and members board for the past four years
