This event is a programme taster for the Level 9 Professional Diploma Leading Cultural Change and Ethical Behaviour in Financial Services.


Trust is the belief in the integrity and honesty of the person or organisation you are dealing with.

With more and more employees working in a blended work environment, some days in the office and some days at home, what are the things that an organisation can do to create an environment of trust with its employees and customers.

This event will address these issues and provide insights on how to do this effectively.

Ger Mitchell

Permanent TSB, Chief Human Resource Officer

Ger is an experienced Commercial Leader and has held a number of senior roles in Branch banking, Intermediary banking, Regional General Management and was appointed to the Group Executive Committee (ExCo) in 2012 as Group Lending & Insurance Director. In 2015, Ger was appointed by the Board to lead the Bank through the Industry Examination of Tracker mortgages and in 2017, Ger was appointed Group HR Director.

Along with the day job, Ger is a member of the Irish Banking Culture Board and also chairs a number of Permanent TSB Group Committees, including: Corporate Social Responsibility; Crisis Management and Organisational Culture.

Ger has led the development and rollout of the Organisational Culture Programme at Permanent TSB, spearheading cultural change throughout the Bank. The culture change currently being undertaken by the Bank aims to rebuild trust and reputation with key stakeholders, in particular customers, and create a more inclusive workplace for colleagues.

Karen Hackett

Head of People Experience - Permanent TSB

Karen is an experienced HR Leader who has worked in the Financial Services sector since 1988, starting her career in Banking with Trustee Savings Bank, and moving into HR in 1999.

Karen has worked across a number of HR briefs in Irish Life since 2001 and Permanent TSB since 2013. Karen was appointed Head of People Experience in Permanent TSB in 2020 having previously held the role of Head of HR Operations in Permanent TSB since 2013.

Karen has a passion for driving connection to organisational purpose through Cultural Evolution, Workforce Engagement, Stakeholder Management and collaboration with Employee Resource Groups to enable a diverse and inclusive high performing organisation. Karen has been at the forefront of Permanent TSB’s new Ways of Working Programme since 2020, championing Permanent TSB’s ‘Hybrid Workplace’.

Karen is a Fellow of the CIPD and has a passion for continuing professional development and education, having completed a Master’s in Business Studies through IMI/UCC (2020) specialising in Strategic HRM, Leadership and OD & Transformation.
