The trustees of a pension scheme are responsible for administering the trust in accordance with trust law, pensions law and revenue practice, and the terms of the trust deed and rules of the scheme.
Trustees should always be mindful of their fundamental duty to act in the members’ best interests. In doing so trustees must act fairly, prudently and diligently between all beneficiaries and potential beneficiaries under the scheme.
In this webinar we will discuss the fundamentals of ethical decision making, and consider the obligations of the different parties involved with the operation of a pension scheme.

Brian MacDonald
Managing Director of Trustee Decisions Limited
Brian is the Managing Director of Trustee Decisions Limited an Irish professional trustee company, providing independent trustee services to private and public corporate clients. He is an experienced pension scheme trustee and a recognised pensions expert having worked in trustee and pensions technical knowledge roles throughout his career.
He has over 30 years of experience in the life and pensions industry both in Ireland and the UK working with all types of pension arrangements. He acts as chairperson to a mix of defined contribution and defined benefit pension schemes. Brian was previously the head of the Life and Pensions Technical Support area for New Ireland Assurance leading a number of expert teams. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Licentiate of the Compliance Institute and he also holds the Pension Trustee Practitioner (PTP) qualification of the LIA.
Brian was recently appointed chair of the Association of Pension Trustees in Ireland (APTI) and is also the current chair of the Pensions Working Group of the Compliance Institute. He sits on the DC Committee of the Irish Association of Pension Funds (IAPF) and was previously chair of Insurance Ireland’s Pensions Committee.
