On 19 July 2022, our CIFD Programme Director Giles Swan and CIFD Alumni Grainne Dooley and Jon Griffin discussed some challenges facing their industries, including current issues facing the funds industry in Luxembourg to some key areas of interest in the ESG sphere.

We were joined by those working in the domestic and international funds industry.

Giles Swan

Head of European Policy, Blockchain.com

Giles Swan - Giles Swan has over two decades in the investment fund industry as a regulator and the European policy director of an investment fund industry association.

Giles is the Head of European Policy at Blockchain.com. Giles chaired an ESMA task force negotiating the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive, has been a national representative on ESMA’s Investment Management Standing Committee and a national expert in the Council of Ministers.

Giles holds a BA in Banking and Finance, first class, from London Guildhall University and an MSc in Finance and Investment from CASS Business School.

Grainne Dooley

Independent Non-Executive Director

Gráinne Dooley is a Dublin based Independent Non-Executive Director. She has over 25 years' experience in banking and investment management in London and Dublin. She has a BA from Trinity College Dublin and an MSc (Economics) from the LSE.

She is a CFA charter holder (2006) and became a Certified Investment Fund Director in 2021. She is a partner in Topriver Partners, an independent directors office with a focus on ESG.

Prior to her NED career, Gráinne spent 2 years as the COO of a London based start-up Clearmacro, helping it secure a strategic funding to build out it’s platform for institutional investors. Before that she spent 11 years at Pioneer Investments in global fixed income investment with a focus on Asia and 6 years at UBS in London.

Gráinne is currently

• A Board member of Northern Trust Fund Services Ireland Limited. She chairs the Investment and Risk Committee and is a member of the Valuations and Operations committee.

• Chair of Epic Investment Partners (Ireland) Limited where she also Chairs the Risk and Valuation committees.

• A Board member of Key Capital Private Equity Funds PLC.

• Chair of Forestay Capital II, ILP.

Jon Griffin

Independent Non-Executive Director

Jon Griffin - Jon is the former CEO and Chairman of the Board of JPMorgan Asset Management (Europe) SarL in Luxembourg.

He retired in June 2020 following a 34 year career at JPMorgan with roles based in the UK, Germany and Tokyo including the last 19 years as CEO of JPMAME in Luxembourg.

Jon was also a Board member of ALFI (Luxembourg Fund Industry Association) from 2005 to 2019 and Board member of EFAMA (European Fund Asset Management Association) from 2019 to 2020.

He is an accredited CIFD since 2021 and is now an Independent Advisor and iNED.
