Ian Nelson

Head Financial Services, Head of Regulatory, KPMG Ireland

Ian is of Head of Financial Services and also Head of Regulatory for KPMG Ireland. Financial Services has over 2,000 people locally involved in supporting our clients across Banking & Capital Markets, Asset Management / Private Equity, Insurance, Aviation and fintech. Ian has been with KPMG for almost 25 years and is a Financial Services risk and regulatory specialist. Ian works with all domestic and international banks in Ireland and a wide range of Financial Services companies. Ian was seconded to the Central Bank of Ireland in the role of Head of the Financial Measures Programme during the financial crisis, managing the programme of engagement with the ECB, IMF and EU. Ian is also a Council Member of the Fintech and Payments Association of Ireland.

Amelia is a Certified Bank Director with executive and board level experience in leading governance, sustainable finance, and culture transformations. Amelia has held several pivotal senior roles in the Financial Services and Consulting sectors, including Head of Governance at Wells Fargo Bank International, and Chief of Staff at Ulster Bank Ireland DAC. She was responsible for leading out on significantly challenging and complex Board priorities such as culture transformation, climate & environmental risk, corporate governance, and data management. With expertise in leveraging cross functional teams across multiple geographies, Amelia has supported the delivery of Irish/EU subsidiary regulatory expectations of SSM/ECB and Central Bank of Ireland. Amelia is a member of Chapter Zero Ireland and has been a key contributor to the development of Ireland’s Sustainable Finance Roadmap, and a member of BPFI’s Sustainable Finance Working Group. Amelia’s early career began in Accenture, where she was promoted to manager in the financial services division. She managed a range of financial services client engagements within the Insurance and Banking sectors in Ireland, US and Eastern Europe, spearheading initiatives in technology transformation, change management and organisational design. A passionate believer in the importance of lifelong learning, Amelia has committed herself to sharpening the saw, gaining qualifications in Corporate Governance, Culture and Sustainable Finance. Amelia is a current member of the Court Services of Ireland Finance Committee, as well as a former member of the Institute of Banking Council. Amelia has also been a member of the judging panel for the Carmichael Good Governance Awards for the Charity sector.

He combines 18 years of executive experience across strategy and execution, transformation leadership, and deep domain experience in customer, digital and innovation with a proven track record of 10 years in customer, sales and service management Bringing fresh perspectives, ambitious thinking and transformational change management to dynamic market and organisational challenges to unlock opportunities and execution Garvan is a learning advocate having spent over 10 years as a Council member of the IOB and completing numerous educational opportunities including executive programmes at IMI, IMD, Harvard Business School, Oxford Said Business School, MIT and Singularity University.

Laurens Vanweddingen

Senior Consultant, Finalyse

Laurens is a senior consultant with Finalyse who has hands on expertise in building solutions to help the banking industry report on and model their climate risks. He has worked on the launch of climate risk reporting for a global investment bank and has developed tools to apply model driven risk weights to retail credit risk portfolios. He has a keen interest in finding innovative ways to solve for the very uncertain risks that the changing climate could have on the world, utilising his advanced technical skills.
