As part of Global Money Week 2025, IOB is delighted to welcome Detective Sergeant Niall Smith to speak on “Managing money securely – how we can help to protect our young people”. Detective Sergeant Smith works in the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB).

Detective Sergeant Smith will discuss how we can help our young people manage their money securely. He will highlight some challenges that young people may face in this regard and offer advice for mitigating these risks.

Detective Sergeant Niall Smith

Detective Sergeant, Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB)

Niall Smith is a Detective Sergeant in the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB). He joined An Garda Síochána in 2003 and has served in Store Street, Finglas, Blanchardstown, Sundrive Road and Crumlin Garda Stations.

He has been in GNECB since 2022 and he currently has responsibility for the Financial Services Liaison Office, International Requests Office and the Fraud Prevention & Disruption Office. He has a Post Graduate Certificate in Forensic Computing & E-Crime Investigation and a Professional Diploma in Cybersecurity from UCD.
