“Navigating a complex regulatory environment – the Fund Director’s perspective” breakfast event, which takes place on 13th June 2024 in the Westbury Hotel, Dublin 2.

The event will be opened by Paul Giblin of IQ-EQ and will run over two sessions. The first session is a panel discussion on DORA and Digitisation /Tokenisation, which will be chaired by Paul Griffith of IQ-EQ with Eoin Motherway, INED, Moira Cronin of PWC and Giles Swan, Programme Director for the IOB CIFD programme. They will be focusing on the key issues that a Director needs to know in relation to these important and emerging topics.

The second session will be chaired by Evelyn Cregan of IOB with Brenda Buckley INED and Barry Quinn of IQ-EQ. This discussion will focus on the current status of the IAF regime and the importance of the messages from the Central Bank as published in this years Supervisory and Regulatory Outlook.

The event starts at 8am with a sit-down breakfast and will run until 10am.

Paul Giblin

Managing Director, Ireland IQ-EQ

Paul has worked in the financial services industry since 1995. He started his career at Merrill Lynch, becoming a director in the global equity derivatives trading business. Paul joined Davy Private Clients in 2003 to focus on alternative investments and was Head of Alternative Investments until 2010 when he was appointed Head of Global Investment Selection. He became Chief Executive Officer of Davy Asset Management in 2014 and is now Managing Director of IQ EQ, Ireland.

Paul is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute. He is also a Certified Investment Fund Director and a member of the Institute of Bankers. Paul graduated from University College Dublin where he received a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters Degree in Financial Services.

Chief Commercial Officer (Ireland), IQ-EQ

Prior to joining IQ-EQ in 2021, Paul was a commercial director with Intertrust Group and managed a portfolio of asset finance, capital markets and private equity clients.

A seasoned professional with over 16 years’ experience in the sector, Paul has also worked as a client services manager with BNY Mellon Corporate Trust, a fund trader with Citco Bank in the Netherlands and as an equity execution trader with NCB Stockbrokers.

Moira is a Digital Risk Partner in PwC Ireland leading out on DORA for the Irish firm and is a member of our European wide DORA leadership team. She has 20 years experience in working in IT Risk across many sectors with specific focus on FS in the last number of years.

Eoin Motherway

Post qualification as a chartered accountant with Deloitte, Eoin spent six years working for the main Broker/Dealer entity of Goldman Sachs in London, holding the positions of Senior Accounting Officer and European Funding Controller.

The second season of his career was twelve years running Investment Fund Valuations in Ireland, Luxembourg and the UK for State Street and BNY Mellon. This included Mutual Funds, Alternatives & ETFs. His more recent season, was to successfully co-found a digital platform called - The Asset Management Exchange (AMX). He led the Irish team building its products, Funds and Management Company to $60Bn in AUM, acting as its CEO and Executive Director.

In addition to being a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, he holds certifications in FinTech and is a Certified Investment Funds Director. He was Chair of the Financial Services Forum, a Council Member of Irish Funds and continues to serve as a member of the Funds Advisory Board to the Institute of Bankers.

Today, he is an Independent Chair and INED to Funds, Management Companies, Fin/RegTechs, eMoney Institutions & Virtual Asset Service Providers. He is an ardent advocate for Industry Regionalisation and known champion for diversity, equity & inclusion, notably in neurodiversity and the field of autism.

Giles Swan

Giles has two decades of public and private sector leadership experience with a wide-ranging background spanning capital markets, investment funds, asset management, insurance and digital finance.

Giles has been a regulator, policymaker, head of policy for a prominent global FinTech company, and the global policy director for a leading trade association. He is currently a non-executive director for several companies, runs a consultancy and advisory firm, and is the academic programme director and associate faculty for several finance related courses and education certificates.

Evelyn Cregan

IOB Director of Executive Education

Evelyn Cregan is Company Secretary, and Director of Executive Education at IOB. Her education portfolio in IOB covers governance, compliance, culture, sustainable finance and FinTech programmes meeting the varying education requirements of IOB’s 33,200 membership. She spent over a decade lecturing in UCD, Smurfit, and Quinn Schools of Business across executive education, finance, accounting, and tax.

She is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, qualifying with KPMG and a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute (ICSA). Evelyn works closely with Compliance Institute, the education and membership body for compliance professionals.

Brenda Buckley

Brenda Buckley has worked with investment funds for over 30 years. Since 2011 she has worked as a professional director and acted as an independent non-executive and certified investment fund director or chairman for various investment funds, a fund administration company, an Irish management company and a MiFID investment firm.

Brenda has extensive executive experience in providing administration, custody, banking and financing to alternative and traditional investment funds, with specialisation in directing fund servicing operations, credit and risk management. She worked with Fortis/ABN AMRO Prime Fund Solutions for 16 years where she was the country manager for Ireland and chief risk officer of the global group. Prior to this Brenda worked with Barings International Fund Managers and Davy.

Brenda is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland as a PCF-2B non-exec director and PCF-3 for the office of chairman of the board. Brenda is a former vice chair and council member of the Irish Fund Directors’ Association and she is also a member of the Institute of Directors in Ireland and the Institute of Banking.

Michael Morris

Michael Morris is a Certified Investment Fund Director and has expertise in portfolio management and governance. He is a professional Independent Director and sits on or chairs the fund/ AIFM boards of a variety of entities across many asset classes.

Mr Morris was a Senior VP/MD of Amundi/Pioneer Investments in Ireland (€250bn AUM) from 2013 to 2017 and was responsible for the Portfolio Management of the Materials sector in both long-only equity funds and a market neutral hedge fund.

Prior to that, he spent 19 years in London latterly as Head of Construction & Building Materials Equity Research at JPMorgan and previously at Old Mutual and HSBC Investment Bank (UK).

Mr. Morris holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in Engineering from University College Dublin. He has completed the Chartered Director programme with the Institute of Directors in London and is a Certified Investment Fund Director with the Institute of Bankers.

Barry Quinn

Head of Management Company Oversight, IQ-EQ

Barry Quinn joined IQ EQ Fund Management (Ireland) Limited in 2016, with responsibility for the supervision of the Management Company oversight and client reporting. Barry has extensive experience in alternative investments and UCITS across a range of product types and mandates.

Prior to joining IQ-EQ, Barry was a Depositary Officer in State Street Custodial Services, managing the investment restriction monitoring team & acting as the regulatory contact for a large number of leading Investment Managers. Barry holds a Batchelor of Arts Degree and a Masters of Economic Policy Evaluation and Planning from the National University of Ireland, Galway.
