Come and hear from John Canny of the Central Bank as he tells us about supervisory issues in the fund’s world. Paula Kelleher will also guide us on how INEDs can ensure they are equipped to oversee the management of the assets in their funds.

John Canny

John Canny (BComm, MMSc) is a Head of Function in the Funds Supervision Division of the Central Bank of Ireland with responsibility for sectoral (thematic) supervision. His Function is also responsible for supervising Depositaries and Fund Administrators. John has worked on the supervision of fund service providers since 2018. Previous to this, John established and managed a specialist team for a number of years, which had responsibility for supervising client asset risk. John also has previous experience in the inspection and supervision of investment firms, and has represented the Central Bank on a number of working groups.

Paula Kelleher – Branch Manager, The Bank of New York Mellon SA/NV Dublin Branch and SA/NV Head of Trustee & Depositary

Paula, a Chartered Director and a Certified Bank Director, and the SA/NV Head of Trustee & Depositary. In her role, Paula has strategic responsibility for the European Bank depositary services function, which in turn ensures that all fund trustee and depositary responsibilities are discharged in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, including AIFMD and UCITS V. Paula has also recently been appointed as a NED (non-executive director) to Pershing Securities International Limited (PSIL).

Prior to joining BNY Mellon in April 2012 Paula, who is a solicitor, was a founding partner of Dillon Eustace, one of Ireland’s leading law firms. During a 20 year tenure as partner, Paula advised financial institutions, insurance companies and financial services providers on a broad range of issues from establishment through regulatory compliance. During that time she also established the Regulatory and Compliance function within the Financial Services Department of the firm. Paula has extensive legal and regulatory knowledge gained as a director and legal advisor both in industry and as a partner in Dillon Eustace. Paula is a member of a number of professional bodies, including the Law Society of Ireland, the Law Society of England and Wales, Institute of Directors in Ireland (“IoD”), Institute of Banking in Ireland and an associate member of the Irish Taxation Institute.
