The financial services sector is key in securing a habitable planet in the decades ahead. The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concluded with the stark warning that we have ‘a brief and rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all’.

To enable a rapid transition to a low-carbon and ecologically sustainable economy, the finance sector needs to drive significant investment (and selective divestment), as governments alone cannot finance and achieve the targets for emissions reductions and rise to the challenge and opportunities of the planetary emergency.

What can the financial sector do to respond at the urgency needed?
