Meet a member of our team - Karl Mallin

Karl Mallin is part of the lifelong learning team but previously worked as an IoB customer service representative
Q: How long have you worked for IOB?

Just over two years – since August 2017.

Q: What did you do before?

Previously I had a collections role in Bank of Scotland Ireland and before that I dealt with credit cards and loans in Chill Insurance so I have always worked in the financial services sector.

Q: What do you find most satisfying about your job?

There’s a lot of variety in my role – I get to talk to members and I also get to work on projects within IOB which are part of the business transformation process. The introduction of the new chatbot is a particular achievement for me personally as this was an idea that I came up with that has been implemented on our new website.

Q: What do you find most challenging about your job?

Because of the variety of my day-to-day tasks, sometimes it is challenging to balance my workload to ensure my optimum performance.

Q: What’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?

I love spending time with my partner and son. He’s now two so we love exploring the city together, swimming and doing lots of outdoor and age-appropriate cultural activities.

Q: Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?

I cannot choose between Bill Gates and Elon Musk. Bill to find out about longevity within business and how he’s lasted so long with Microsoft and Elon Musk because of his modern innovations – SpaceX and his tunnels.

Q: What one thing would you bring to a desert island?

My phone just so I could stay in touch with my friends and family! And check my social media updates of course!

Q: If you had a magic wand, what one change would you make on behalf of members?

I am quite conscious about looking out for the environment to ensure my son’s future, so I’d really like to see our exams become paperless and the introduction of a digital exam process at some point in the near future.
