Noel Melvin – an appreciation

It was with great sadness that we learned of the untimely passing of an esteemed member of our adjunct faculty, Noel Melvin, in September of this year.

Noel was a member of our faculty for over seven years and encompassed everything that IoB stands for – setting his own excellent standards, delivering education with a passion, taking time to individually help students to understand concepts and doing it all with a smile and good humour. He always went above and beyond to help his students. A true gentleman, complete professional and a pleasure to work with, Noel lectured and examined on a number of our academic programmes on subject areas including culture, debt management, personal insolvency and residential mortgage arrears.

Noel, a native of Ballina, living in Monaghan, was Learning and Development Manager with Ulster Bank for over a decade and before that he worked at First Active. He was a graduate of NUIG and IOB. Prior to his career in financial services he spent 11 years playing League of Ireland football. More recently, he was known for his involvement in athletics in Monaghan and had been training for the 2019 Dublin City Marathon.

Noel will be sadly missed by us all. He is survived by his wife Kate, children Marc and Sophie as well as his brothers and sisters, and a wider circle of family and friends.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
