New dedicated studio opens to deliver blended online learning to students and members

In its five-year strategy, IoB made a commitment to further develop our education delivery, embracing digital technologies and we are delighted to announce that the first recording in our purpose-built studio took place on 20 September - Regulatory Update: A Scan of the Regulatory Horizon delivered by Giles Swan for our Executive Education alumni.

Our new studio facility is located close to our offices and consists of four recording and streaming spaces. The largest studio is the ‘green screen’ studio where the eLearning team record content for our students and lifelong learners.

Mary O’Dea, Chief Executive, said: “Our digital learning is very much designed to fit with our students’ lifestyles. We appreciate that studying while working full-time means that not everybody can attend lectures in person. Blended education programmes offer a real alternative for those who wish to avail of applied learning which advances their career but complements their lifestyle.”

Two live-stream studios facilitate real-time lectures to students who are watching remotely. Individuals can see and hear the presenter, follow the onscreen slide deck and ask questions through a message service. The queries are made available to the lecturer to address during the session.

A live webinar studio is used for delivering podcast-style, live webinars to students who can hear the presenter and facilitator and view their slides on screen. Much like the live streams, students can ask questions through a Q&A pod that the facilitator or presenter will answer for them. Students can also answer multiple-choice questions on screen and engage in real-time polls that the presenter may run throughout the webinar. Similarly, a recorded version of the live webinar can also be made available to students after the stream has finished, which are often used as study aides. For students unable to join the live stream lectures or webinars, My Institute provides a repository for their eLearning materials where can they can access materials in their own time.

Eimear McBride, Director of Digital and Innovation, who is responsible for IoB’s digital content said: “We have listened to feedback from our members regarding their learning needs and student experience really is at the heart of this new facility. It will enable us to ensure that the programmes and pieces of learning that we create are designed for busy professionals.”
